The Tanner Van Lines tradition began in 1917
by Brandon Tanner's grandfather with the founding of Tanner's Transfer &
Storage. Brandon Tanner grew up helping his father run that company.
In 1978, He started Tanner & Tanner Moving
Systems. It closed during an economic slowdown in 1982.
Tanner made his second attempt in 1986,
starting Tanner Van Lines with three trucks and a 6,000 square- foot
warehouse in Mechanicsville. We put trust in God, luck and somebody's old
truck.
Today, Tanner Van Lines has 20 trucks. Up
to 60 people work for the company during the busy season, while 25 to 30 are
employed during the rest of the year. It has a Warehouse capacity of 53,000
square feet of storage space and a 2,400-square-foot office.
In 1995 Marie Tanner in started Tanner
International Forwarding Inc. with the acquisition of L.A. Sherrield
Transfer & Storage in Petersburg. The company has a 25,000 square-foot
warehouse on Bollingbrook Street in Petersburg Virginia.
The Headquarters for both companies is 2250
Charles City road in Richmond, Virginia. The Petersburg operation employs 12
workers and has three trucks.
Tanner Van
Lines serves as a regional agent of
Global Van Lines
and northAmerican Van Lines
which is a member of the Sirva group.
We are
unique because Tanner Van Lines trucks run in what we call "spoke and
wheel", which means our over-the - road trucks leave every Sunday to haul
furniture east of the Mississippi from Maine to Miami.
